Consultation Phase

The whole treatment begins with appointing a visit to a fertility doctor. During the initial visit, your medical history will be analyzed for past surgeries and for taking any previous fertility treatments. History of major ailments in the past and illness in the family is also taken into consideration.

Financial consultation will also be given to give a heads-up on the financial support that must be addressed during the treatment. All the consultations will take up to a week.

Preparation Phase

During the preparation phase, scans and screening will be done for the patient to receive the IVF treatment optimally.

The tests female patients would be subjected to will include:

  • AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone)
  • AFC Ultrasound (Antral Follicles count)
  • PAP smear
  • CBC (complete blood count)
  • TSH (Thyroid-stimulating hormone) and Free T4
  • Prolactin
  • Varicella IgG Antibodies
  • Measles IgG Antibodies
  • Rubella IgG Antibodies
  • Hepatitis B Core antibody
  • Hepatitis B Surface antigen
  • Hepatitis C antibody
  • Antibody Screen
  • Syphilis
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG/IgM
  • AboRh Blood Type
  • HIV 1/2
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea

The tests that male patients would be subjected to may include:

  • Semen evaluation
  • Hepatitis B Core antibody
  • Hepatitis B Surface antigen
  • Hepatitis C antibody
  • Syphilis
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG/IgM
  • AboRh Blood Type
  • HIV ½
  • HTLV-I/II Antibodies
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea

The tests to be taken will be based on the doctor’s discretion, as well as the physical and medical history examination of the patients. Not all the tests would be recommended most of the time.

Taking these tests to prepare for the treatment will take nearly a week or two.

In short, the following are the tests you will have to take in general before the treatment:

  • Blood panel
  • Ultrasounds
  • Infectious disease screening
  • Uterine evaluation
  • Sperm analysis

You may also be advised to take birth control pills for 2 to 4 weeks after taking the required tests.

Procedure Phase

The procedure phase will take around 4 to 5 weeks.

After two or three days of the onset of your menstrual cycle, you will be administered LH (Luteinizing Hormone) and FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) injections for nearly 10 or 12 days.

For the process of egg retrieval the hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotropin) injection will be administered 36 hours before the procedure. So, after three days of the ovarian stimulation stage, the egg retrieval procedure will take place.

After retrieving the egg, the fertilization process will take place in the laboratory for nearly 5 days. After those days, the embryo will be transferred to the mother’s uterus.

Success Phase

From the day of transfer of the embryo to the mother’s uterine, you will be recommended to wait for 14 days, that is, 2 weeks before testing for the success of the pregnancy.

You may also have to wait for more than 14 days at times to test for pregnancy as the time of secretion of the hCG hormones in the blood due to pregnancy may vary for everyone based on their physical health.

On testing for pregnancy after the recommended period of waiting, the results of your treatment can be found.
