ICSI Treatment in Chennai

Dr. Niveditha Amilthan MS (OG), MRCOG (UK), FRM, FMAS, F ART

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is like the advanced level of IVF that can be followed when IVF does not help you become pregnant. This method follows the same procedure as IVF; only the fertilization procedure is different.
ICSI is more complex than IVF and needs more precision and expertise to perform the procedure. Dr. Niveditha, with her 10+ years of experience in the fertility field, has conducted many ICSI cycles and helped several patients with infertility issues realize their dream of parenthood.
ICSI Treatment Procedures We Follow
ICSI is a complex process and involves undergoing several procedures before getting pregnant. Aside from the method of fertilization, all other procedures are similar to IVF treatment.
At The Hive Fertility Centre, Dr. Niveditha follows a five-step ICSI treatment that ensures that you achieve pregnancy and go home with your own bundle of joy.
Ovarian stimulation
This is the first step of the ICSI procedure, where you will be administered hormonal injections to stimulate your ovaries to produce more eggs. The dose and duration of the injections depend on your condition. Typically, you must take 1 or 2 shots a day for 8–14 days.
Egg & sperm retrieval
When the follicles have grown, and the eggs are about to be released, the egg follicles will be retrieved by inserting a needle into the vagina. Simultaneously, the sperm is also collected from the male partner and sent for a semen analysis. The sperm with high quality, motility, and morphology will be selected and segregated from the rest.
Fertilization
This is where the procedure differs from traditional IVF. In traditional IVF, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a lab dish for fertilization. In ICSI, however, a single, high-quality sperm is selected and injected directly into the egg’s cytoplasm. This is done when the sperm has low motility and can’t reach the egg on its own.
Embryo culture
The fertilized eggs are closely monitored for development for a few days. They will also be analyzed to check if they have any chromosomal abnormalities.
Embryo transfer
This is the last stage of the ICSI process, where the embryo(s) with the highest chances of resulting in pregnancy is selected and transferred into your uterus. Pregnancy happens when the embryo(s) successfully implant in the uterine lining.

- You are over 35 years of age and have not been able to get pregnant after six months of regular, unprotected intercourse
