IVF Treatment Procedures We Follow
IVF is a complex process and involves undergoing several procedures before getting pregnant. At The Hive Fertility Centre, Dr. Niveditha follows a five-step IVF treatment that ensures that you achieve pregnancy and go home with your own bundle of joy.
Ovarian stimulation
This is the first step of the IVF procedure, where you will be administered hormonal injections to stimulate your ovaries to produce more eggs. The dose and duration of the injections depend on your condition. Typically, you must take 1 or 2 shots a day for 8–14 days.
Egg & sperm retrieval
When the follicles have grown, and the eggs are about to be released, the egg follicles will be retrieved by inserting a needle into the vagina. Simultaneously, the sperm is also collected from the male partner and sent for a semen analysis. The sperm with high quality, motility, and morphology will be selected and segregated from the rest.
Fertilization
The collected eggs and sperm are placed together in a lab dish overnight for fertilization. If fertilization doesn’t occur, you can choose to undergo ICSI, where a single, high-quality sperm is injected into the egg’s cytoplasm.
Embryo culture
The fertilized eggs are closely monitored for development for a few days. They will also be analyzed to check if they have any chromosomal abnormalities.
Embryo transfer
This is the last stage of the IVF process, where the embryo(s) with the highest chances of resulting in pregnancy is selected and transferred into your uterus. Pregnancy happens when the embryo(s) successfully implant in the uterine lining.

Frequently Asked Questions
A single IVF cycle can take up to six to eight weeks. This involves the time it takes during ovulation induction, fertilization, embryo culture, and the two-week wait after embryo transfer. This time duration is not obsolete and may vary based on the couple’s health condition.
Other than the fact that the babies are born through different methods, IVF babies and natural-born babies are the same. They have the same physical attributes and mental capacity as a natural baby.
However, the risk and other factors involved in the procedure still make many people skeptical about the procedure.
Just like any other fertility treatment, IVF has its own risks. The hormonal injections, egg retrieval, and embryo transfer procedures can be risky for both the mother and baby.
Some studies also suggest that IVF babies have a higher risk of premature birth and low birth weight.
The average success rate of IVF is around 40%. The success rate is higher in women under 35 years of age, and the success rate increases as the number of cycles increases.
