- Medical conditions like diabetes, cystic fibrosis, etc.
- Cancer treatments like chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.
- Trauma to the testicles in the past.

Male Infertility Issues Treated By Dr. Niveditha
Here are some of the most common male infertility issues that you can get treatments for from Dr. Niveditha.
Erectile Dysfunction And Premature Ejaculation
Erectile dysfunction is when you can’t form or maintain an erection for a long time during sexual intercourse.
Premature ejaculation is when you ejaculate before you or your partner want to. Most times, you will ejaculate within 2 or 3 minutes of arousal.
You don’t need to worry if you have any or both of these issues. They are fairly common and can be treated easily.
Varicocele
Varicocele happens when the vein that transports blood from the testicles to the heart is swollen. This can cause blood to accumulate in the scrotum and cause swelling. This is a reversible condition and can be treated easily.
Hydrocele
A hydrocele (HI-droe-seel) is a swelling in the scrotum that occurs when fluid collects in the thin sheath surrounding a testicle. Hydrocele is common in newborns and usually disappears without treatment by age one. However, older boys and adult men can develop a hydrocele due to inflammation or injury within the scrotum.

Specialised Sperm Function Tests
These specialized sperm function tests are conducted to determine whether the sperm can function properly and fertilize the egg. This test determines the capacity of the sperm to penetrate the egg’s outer layer and enter it.
DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI)
A DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI) is used to analyze the amount of DNA damage in the sperm. The lower the percentage of the DFI, the higher the number of good-quality sperm in your semen sample. This test is used to evaluate your sperm quality.
Sperm Selection
Dr. Niveditha uses an advanced sperm selection method called magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS) to separate good-quality sperm from bad ones.
In this method, a sperm sample is passed through a solution containing a magnet. This magnet can bond with the Phosphatidylserine (PS) present in the cell membrane of defective or dead sperm.
When the sperm passes through the magnet, the defective sperm gets attached to the magnet, and only the good-quality sperm passes through. This procedure allows for the selection of the best-quality sperm for ART procedures like IUI, IVF, etc.
Sperm Retrival Technique
Sperm retrieval technique is the procedure followed to extract sperm from the testes. The preferred method of sperm retrieval is through masturbation. However, if the sperm count in a semen sample is low, or if the sperm are of low quality, you can undergo any of the below procedures to extract sperm from your testes.
Dr. Niveditha will examine your condition and choose the right extraction method. Below are some of those sperm retrieval procedures.
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA)
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) is a sperm retrieval method where a thin needle is used to insert into the testicle and collect sperm directly from the testicle. The sperm will be analyzed, and the best sperm collected will be used for assisted reproductive techniques like IVF, ICSI, etc.
Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (MESA)
A Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (MESA) is performed to locate and extract sperm directly from the epididymis, a tiny structure that stores the sperm.
It is a minimally invasive surgery and is preferred when you have any blockages that prevent the sperm from reaching the ejaculate.
Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA)
A Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA) is a simpler version of MESA, where, instead of surgery, a small needle will be inserted into the epididymis to extract the sperm.
This procedure is simpler and quicker than MESA. However, it might only provide fewer sperm samples than MESA.
Testicular Sperm Extraction (Micro-TESE)
A Microdissection TESE is preferred in cases of severe male infertility where your fertility doctor can only extract very little or no sperm. Here, tissue samples will be collected from your testicles and they will be analyzed to identify areas of sperm production.
This increases the chances of finding some healthy sperm that can be used for fertility treatments like ICSI, IMSI, etc.
